District Jazz Night - SENIOR JAZZ
NOTES:
This Tuesday evening is our annual Burnaby School District Jazz Concert Night in the Michael J. Fox Theatre. Mr. Wilson’s Senior Jazz students please arrive between 6-6:30pm and warm up in D227. The concert begins at 7pm and ends approximately at 9pm. Jazz bands from 7 Burnaby high schools (including Burnaby South) will be performing for this special annual concert night. Parents/guardians are invited. Tickets cost $5 (to help cover theatre rental) and are first come first served at the door. There should be enough room for all interested guests but again it is first come first served at the door.

Musicians: please wear all black. All of the musicians in the jazz bands will remain in Michael J Fox Theatre for the entire performance and will have their instruments and music with them in their seats. Your instrument cases/jackets/etc stay in D227. When called upon, musicians will come down to the stage and set up. When finished musicians return to their seats in the Michael J. Fox Theatre. Only at the end of the concert does EVERYONE return to their assigned room to pack up and collect their belongings. All schools should be listening to the other groups performing – this is what this night is about.
Vocal jazz is invited.
Korg synth provided.

Choir Room
Usually when we visit schools, we sing a few songs for each other (your group, my group), occasionally do something together if it works out, and I can work with the whole group or your group alone – we do whatever you think best for your students. I use it as a recruiting tool, and to give my students more experience performing. If I work with your group, it also gives high school singers experience with another conductor, if that is desired, and perhaps a fresh look at the repertoire they’re singing.

Remembrance Day is a sombre occasion where we pay tribute to those who have lost their lives to war. There should be no applause or talking during the service. The audience should stand for the entrance of the platform party, for the singing of “O Canada” and during the last post. Students should remain standing until the end of the assembly after the post (Includes “God Save the Queen”). Have students leave their belongings in class. No cell phones in the theatre. Please remove hats in the theatre. According to the members of the Legion, it is disrespectful to wear more than one poppy.
